Festival regulations
Czech Gay and Lesbian Film Festival MEZIPATRA is a specialized competitive film festival focusing on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender related films. The aims of the festival organized on a non-profit base are to promote quality human-interest movies and contribute to the emancipation of gender minorities in the Czech Republic.
Article 1.
Czech Gay and Lesbian Film Festival
MEZIPATRA is a specialized competitive film festival focusing on gay,
lesbian, bisexual and transgender related films. The aims of the
festival organized on a non-profit base are to promote quality
human-interest movies and contribute to the emancipation of gender
minorities in the Czech Republic.
Article 2.
The MEZIPATRA Festival is held
annually in Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, and in
the capital city of Prague. A part of the festival program is also
presented in other towns of the Czech Republic. The MEZIPATRA Festival
is a successor of the gay and lesbian film festival "Rainbow Above
Brno", which took place in the years 2000 and 2001.
Article 3.
The MEZIPATRA Festival is organised
by the non-profit non-govermental civic association STUD Brno, with its
registered office at Smejkalova 75, 616 00 Brno, Czech Republic.
Article 4.
The MEZIPATRA Festival is organised
in cooperation with foreign cultural institutions, embassies and
consulates, as well as in cooperation with local and national cultural
institutions and other similar-oriented film festivals.
Article 5.
The 7th Year of the MEZIPATRA
Festival will take place from October 27 to November 4, 2006 in Brno,
and from November 6 to November 12, 2006 in Prague. The
festival-related events held in other czech towns (Echo of the
MEZIPATRA Festival) will continuously follow the main program in Prague.
Article 6.
The MEZIPATRA Festival presents
selected feature films and short films as well as documentaries. The
Festival is open to filmmakers from all over the world. Films may be
enlisted by directors, producers, distributors and other legal
entities. The enlisted films are entitled to attend other film
festivals, as well. The films to participate in the contest will be
selected by the Selection Committee. Selection criteria will include
both the artistic treatment of the enrolled film and its human-interest
message.
Article 7.
The MEZIPATRA Festival is proceeded
as an artistic competition – the films are rated by a professional
jury, students' jury and by the festival audience. The festival awards
the following prizes: the Best feature film award, the Best short film
award and the Audience award for the best feature film. Only the films
which have not been introduced in the past festival editions could
participate in the festival contest.
Article 8.
Contest enrollement rules
- The contestant should deliver their contest application completed and signed by an authorized person (the filmmaker, producer or rights holder) including the film preview copy on a DVD or VHS (PAL or NTSC) media to the festival address no later than June 30th 2006.
- The preview copy should be labeled with the name of the film, director, address, and other phone, fax or e-mail contact.
- Contestant should provide the organizer with a brief synopse of the film in either English, Czech or Slovak language, as well as with at least one still from the film and the photo of the filmmaker.
- For each film enrolled to the contest an individual application should be delivered. The organiser welcomes any complementary material concerning the enrolled film.
- The organiser is not liable for paying the fright costs of the preview copies of enrolled films sent to the festival organisational body. The preview copies will be returned back to the contestants after the festival upon an explicit claim of the contestant. For that case the contestant is obliged to pay a fee of USD 25,- to refund the fright costs of returning the copy. All unclaimed materials and preview copies become a part of the festival archive.
Article 9.
Contest participation rules
- The organiser will notify the contestants with the result of the contest film selection no later than July 31th 2006.
- The screening copies of selected films should be delivered to the organiser's address no later than 1 week before the start of the Festival (no later than October 20th, 2006). The screening copies must be delivered on a 35-mm film, BETA SP, DVD or VHS (PAL or NTSC) media.
- The screening copy is not required if the preview copy included in the application is determined by the contestant for the use as a screening copy, and the preview copy fulfills all criteria required for a screening copy in terms of these regulations.
- The films selected for the contest should not be withdrawn from the festival program.
- The screening copies of selected films of other than Czech or Slovak language version should be equiped with either English, German or French subtitles or the contestant should provide the organiser with the original dialogues in one of these languages. All foreign language films will be translated to the Czech language.
- The organiser will agree with the filmmakers and the rights-holders on the number of festival screenings particularly for each film.
- The fright costs of selected films may be covered by the organiser according to its proper consideration and upon a particular agreement with the contestant or the copy holder.
- The organiser assumes the liability for the damage or loss of the copy of the selected films only in the period from the reception of the film copy to its consignment back to the filmmaker. The compensation for the loss or damage of the film copy in the said period is limited to the costs for the production of a new copy of the film as calculated from a regular lab pricelist.
- The organiser is entitled to make one VHS or one DVD copy of the enlisted and selected films.
- The contestants acknowledge that the organiser is entitled to use the photographs and up to 3-minute extracts from the selected films in communication media, on the Internet, in the Festival catalogue etc for the Festival promotion.
Article 10.
To attend the Festival, the participants must agree with the terms hereof.
Article 11.
The contingencies and events not
stipulated herein shall be decided by the Festival's director in
compliance with the Festival's policy.
Article 12.
The MEZIPATRA Festival shall be
accompanied by other related events, such as art exhibitions, literary
readings, performances and/or public discussions.
